Inexpensive labeling - for a wide range of products
For labeling a wide range of products, experimental or trial batches of goods, you can use a template label. As a result, you will save a lot of money.
In sausage, confectionery and packaging shops, as well as in supermarkets, there is often a need to label small batches of goods. At the same time, the label should be colorful (full-color) and bright to attract the attention of potential buyers. A decent amount of money is required for its printing. But the Vostok company suggests that you do not spend extra money.
Step 1. For labeling a wide range of products, experimental or trial batches of goods, you can use the so-called "template" label.
A template label usually contains a logo, company/enterprise name, contacts, and website address. The product name, composition, and barcode are missing: this space on the label remains blank (background). Using identical template labels significantly reduces the cost of the entire print run. As a result, we save on the following items.
- The print run is calculated for the entire product range at once.
- Due to the production of a minimum number of flexo forms (there is no need to print a label for each product item, and, accordingly, to produce a flexo form for each type of product).
- A label intended for those product items that are not sold immediately does not lose its relevance, it can be used for other — more popular — goods.
As an example, labeling of packaged food products in a supermarket is given (see Fig. 1).

Step 2. You have saved money, and now you have a large print run of template labels with preprint. But none of them have the product name and barcode, as well as other necessary information applied in accordance with the legislation of Ukraine. And now you need a label printer! Imagine: its use is more expedient and profitable than ordering the entire print run of labels from a printing house. The product name, thanks to the printer, can simply be reprinted on the front label. It is noteworthy that you can print only one label! However, the maximum quantity is limited by the type of label printer: using a desktop model, you can print up to 2,000-5,000 pcs. per day, and the capacity of industrial printers is designed for 300-500 thousand labels per day.
Step 3. Do not forget that service information - product composition, expiration/use by date, production, packaging and sale date, as well as barcode — are applied to the back template label (see Fig. 2).

Using a label printer with a resolution of 203 dpi, you can print texts starting with a font of the fourth point (see Fig. 3).

For smaller fonts, use a printer with a resolution of 300 dpi (see Fig. 4).

In addition, for higher quality printing, it is necessary to use ribbons based on wax and Wax-Ressin resins and reduce the printer's print speed.
Using the same type of template labels and additional printing of information on a label printer makes it possible to significantly save on labels, as well as achieve greater flexibility in marking goods/products.
Printing on packaging film
There is an option without using a label - printing on packaging film. In this case, brand information is printed on the film, and the product name, composition, bar code, production date and expiration date are additionally printed using a special thermal transfer printer mounted vertically or horizontally on the packaging machine.
The development of digital printing technology has allowed us to take label printing and marking of small batches of products to a new level. Now, full-fledged solutions are available to enterprises, which were previously printed only in very large print runs. Manufacturing enterprises now have the ability to mark products in small batches, for example, for promotions, tastings and other marketing activities to attract customers. One of the biggest advantages of digital label printing is the ability to print variable information in one print run: serial numbers and corresponding bar codes, product web passport codes (smart labels).
